Unforeseen Challenge

Just a week before Christmas, lung cancer became an unexpected and unwelcome surprise in my life. Despite always leading an active, healthy lifestyle as an endurance athlete, never having smoked and barely touching a drink, this disease chose me. All my tests for covid came back negative, leading us to take a CT scan and eventual biopsies. The grim diagnosis came through only three days ago. It's a real shocker because I am merely 29 years old, having just completed my graduate studies and scored my dream job only three weeks prior.

Alone and Mending

Three times last night, he roused me from my warm bed so he could answer nature's call outside (still, usually, he sleeps all night without making fuss)--then, come morning light, I spotted a nasty pile of vomit right on his lovingly-chosen canine bed. I guess it's not his blame to bear, but I really don't seem to have energy or heart to wander too far from home today. P.S: All this happens after surviving nine years of companionship and being engaged in love for a year and a half.

Christmas Amid Distance

My Grandad hasn't been able to ruin Christmas, but he's been stuck in the hospital for nearly two weeks now. Sadly, he won't be able to come home for Christmas. You see, throughout all my 20 years, we've never celebrated Christmas without him. The situation is more terrible because, due to the COVID, we're not allowed to visit him either.

I rang him up this morning and it honestly choked me up a bit. He spoke about a heartfelt gift that he got from the ward which made him respond with deep emotions, and that almost brought me to the point of crying. After he gained control of his feelings, he started to share about the delightful turkey dinner he's looking forward to having today, which has him all thrilled. There's also a great piece of news, he's expected to be back home well before New Year's.
